Congressman talks immigration, drilling at meeting

U.S. Congressman Michael C. Burgess (R-26) hosted a town hall meeting April 28 at Lonestar High School in Frisco. Burgess answered questions put forth by area residents.
A Little Elm woman spoke to Burgess about illegal immigration issues facing America, noting the "birthing hotels," the amount of crime in "our backyards," and spending "millions of dollars" in keeping non-citizens healthy. She expressed disgust at officials "turning a blind eye to the crimes and illegal activities," along the border.
"What's your perspective on all that you see that happens in Washington when it gets away [from Texas]? Texas and the border states are ridiculed [...] taken advantage of. Enough is enough," she said.
"No one believes we can do what we need to do," Burgess said.
He said there has been a decrease in illegal immigration, but explained that those numbers could reflect downward economic trends. Burgess said that heavily armed groups on the border use terror tactics against citizens.
There are discussions addressing illegal immigration in Washington. Burgess noted that it's the first time in his experience that instead of pointing fingers, those in Washington are asking, "How are we going to fix this?"
One Frisco resident asked where this country is headed, questioning the leadership in the White House. He asked Burgess, "Is there somebody that knows what this man [President Barack Obama] is doing?"
"Transparency in the White House is nonexistent," Burgess said.
Burgess continued, saying that the White House has not been forthcoming, noting the health care bill restructure.
"You kind of can't know what you don't know," Burgess said. "And that's where we are right now."
Burgess said he tried to get emails and notes concerning the health care bill, but instead all he received was a press release.
"The White House has not been forthcoming on that issue, not just on the health care side, but the cap and trade industry, the banking industry [and] the auto industry," Burgess said.
Another Frisco resident asked Burgess why Congress has given up what was given to them by the Constitution, noting the U.S. involvement, the "war ... in Libya that President Obama says it isn't."
"You're allowing him to be a dictator," the resident said. "Take away the money and have him ask for it."
Burgess replied that even with the activity in Libya, Libyan leader Moammar Ghaddafi is "unlikeable." But Burgess said he agreed with the Frisco resident.
"This would be one of those rare times where I align myself in that percentage," Burgess said.
Burgess answered preliminary questions about the recent repeal of HR 1586, or "Save Our Schools" bill, which was created by Democratic Congressman Lloyd Doggett.
In the original bill, $830 million in federal funds was not given to Texas schools as a way to curb the deviation of educational funding to the state. In 2009, Texas diverted $3.2 million from education funding and replaced it with the same amount from the Economic Recovery Act. HR 1586 was an attempt to exclude Texas from funding because Doggett wanted more accountability from the state that the money set aside would be used for students and not diverted elsewhere.
Burgess, who has worked hard to repeal the legislation, felt that the bill singled out Texas specifically. He said the state legislation in 2009 were the ones who directed the funds and spent it. Burgess said the funds for Texas education will stay in the budget.
In other matters, Burgess believes that drilling in the Gulf of Mexico should also resume. He said it was a mistake to stop it, and wants to see it start back up again.
"I don't think there is any question," Burgess said.
He said the drilling would keep the trade deficit in balance. This would allow manipulation of the market for oil to be vastly reduced.
In light of the March earthquake in Japan, Burgess said the four active nuclear power plants in Texas were designed with Tornado Alley in mind when asked if Texas could face a similar disaster. He understands that the environment is unpredictable.
"Japan showed us now no matter how much you prepare and plan, Mother Nature can change," Burgess said.
Burgess spoke of the weakness of nuclear plants in holding spent fuel rods in one spot on-site at the plants, which presents a danger that Japan is facing in trying to keep the rods cool. Instead, he believes that the construction for a long-term holding storage unit for the spent fuel rods in Nevada should resume.
"It's a mistake and needs to be looked at," Burgess said. "Nuclear power runs 20 percent electrical production. I don't see that going away."

We need more tough new politicians as US Rep. Lou Barletta to strengthen our borders fence, build a legal barrier of cutting further settlement of illegal nationals. He showed his abilities when he stood against the US government, the (ACLU) American Communist Lawyers Union, US Chamber of Commerce and the open border rapid leftists. As a man of conviction he would appreciate the TEA PARTY platform as a great organizer to draw in more Americans to our causes.
Our lawmakers must be persuaded by the threat of being voted out of office, that they must mandate such logical laws as mandating E-Verify, Secure communities and the 287 G. Our honest politicians should insure its unhealthy for businesses to hire illegal aliens. Not just small restaurant chains, but high end companies as McDonald franchises Become a "Whistle Blower" and report illegal aliens working to ICE or local police. Whistle blowers can send these company owners to prison; making hefty fines and loss of business assets essential. If ICE agency doesn't respect your patriotic duty, leave a message with NumbersUSA, as they will contact the right entities in the DC Capital. These people are not just the Senators or Congressmen-Women in Washington, but its also a mixed bag of Governors, Mayors, Police Chiefs and a wide range of city managers. Many of these Liberal-Democrats are in Congress to feather their own nests from special interest groups; there are no mitigating circumstances for hard line, wealthy Republicans either. Good Righteous Americans have come to the end of their tether, that's why "THE PEOPLE'S" TEA PARTY was born?
The Obama government of today and yesteryear administration has seen fit, to cater to the illegal immigration invaders, and now years of disgusting failures and complete incompetence is driving federal and State treasuries into bankruptcy. How many Trillions of dollars could America have packed into infrastructure, welfare nets, balancing federal State and local government, if that deceased Lib-Democrat Ted Kennedy hadn't rescinded the nationality "Quota System?." If the previous President LBJ' Immigration law had remained steadfast? But today with have nothing but economic illegal aliens threading their way across a poorly funded border; undermanned with no troops present to stop this incursion. Now America is going through a huge crime wave, as the sewers of South America have opened spilling there offal and bringing with it unfettered death and destruction to the American people.
To ensure America's future and your children, we must bring to a halt this invasion of our sovereign nation. The Liberal progressives and their philosophy have no respect for peoples freedom and self determination. We cannot afford to feed the world or allow activist judges to supersede laws such as illegal alien schooling or free health care. Our only real choice is to unseat the factions of "Tax and Spend" We have massive US deficit through entitlement programs that is partially caused by the 300.000 annual Birthright baby citizenship law illegal parents to settle with expenditures in the billions of taxpayer dollars. The TEA PARTY has an unparalleled growth membership that is threatening the two party system of government, which is totally destroying this country through partisan economics. But the TEA PARTY is rapidly moving ahead with the assurance, that the illegal immigration occupation will be halted. The TEA PARTY will not vote for any Sanctuary State policies; NO Chain Migration; NO more Amnesties as promised by the late Teddy Kennedy; NO more Immigration Reform packages of any kind.
