Sign up for library card, join Friends of the Little Elm Public Library

By Tina Hager
In recognition of National Library Card Sign-up month in September, Lake Cities Library, Little Elm Public Library, and The Colony Public Library, are having a friendly tri-city competition to see who can sign up the most new library patrons. The newest twist is each of the Friends groups for those libraries are having a competition of their own to see which Friends group can sign up the most new members. If you would like to meet the Little Elm Friends in person, they are meeting Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. If you have not gotten a library card or joined a library Friends group yet, September is a great month to do it. If you only have time to join one, join Little Elm in September, then join the others as soon as you have time during the year. Libraries and being a friend of libraries is the best investment you’ll ever make so we all look forward to seeing you.
Another incentive to have a Little Elm library card is that if you show your card at Camelot (sells books, music, and games) in Little Elm you can receive 10 percent off your purchase. Camelot is at 407 W Eldorado Pkwy in Little Elm and can be reached at 972-987-4500. If other businesses would be interested in this or other library partnerships, contact the library at 214-975-0430 and ask for Tina.
Speaking of books, the Little Elm Library fall reading club for all ages runs from Sept. 1 through Oct. 30. Pick up the reading form, read or listen to seven books, then return the form for your reading rewards. Hot new reads added this week to get you started include “The Vigilantes” by W.E.B. Griffin and William E. Butterworth IV; “Tough Customer” by Sandra Brown; “Veil of Night” by Linda Howard; and “Star Island” by Carl Hiaasen. New large print western titles include “Double the Bounty” by Robert J. Randisi; “The Last Gunfighter: Winter Kill” by William W. Johnstone with J.A.Johnstone; “Westward the Monitors Roar” by Todhunter Ballard; “Gun Work” by J. Lee Butts; and “The Dangerous Dawn” by Frank Leslie.
Upcoming programs at the library on Sept. 11 that require registration include an Early Childhood Education Training workshop at 10:30 a.m. ($50 to cover cost of materials) and a jewelry-making workshop conducted by members of the Little Elm Crafters Guild at 11 a.m. ($10 suggested donation for supplies). Remember the library will be closed Sept. 3 through Sept. 6 in observance of Labor Day. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend.
