Hockey: Marauders eliminated in first round
BY JUSTIN THOMAS, JThomas@acnpapers.com
Entering the postseason, Marcus’ hockey team had been playing well, winning four of its last five games, including defeating Plano East, 9-3, on Feb. 25 to help earn the No. 3 seed in the varsity silver division of the AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League.
But Tuesday at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Euless, the Marauders stumbled, falling to East, 3-2, in a shootout in the first round of the playoffs.
Marcus had gone 2-1 against the Panthers during the regular season, including winning the last two matchups by six goals on each occasion.
Marcus again found itself trailing by a goal in the third period, when Felan connected with Austin Green to force overtime.
But after a scoreless extra period, Marcus went 0-for-3 in the shootout and East’s Ryan Cotton netted the game-winner.
