It is election time again for the Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD school board, and as of this past Monday, the candidates are set.
The three candidates running for Place 5 are Susie Perez, Bob Mora and Lynn Chaffin. Chaffin currently holds Place 5 and is running for re-election.
“I have served 12 years on the Board,” said Chaffin. “I am offering myself for re-election and would be honored to serve the residents, parents, students, teachers & administrators, and businesses of this district one more term.”
Mora is also running for Place 5 and feels that the community will get “more with Mora.”
“I am a retired school administrator of 25 years. I have experience as a teacher, assistant principal and district-level coordinator of mathematics and instructional technology,” said Mora. “Twelve of those years were spent in the CFBISD.”
The third and final candidate running for Place 5 is Susie Perez, who could not be reached for comment.
Place 6 will see four people run for the seat. The candidates are current chair-holder Frank Shor, along with John Mathews, David Lloyd Kirby and Sedric Flood.
“Being on the school board for three years gives me experience,” said Shor. “I am very proud to represent this district and would like to continue to do so.”
Mathews is running for the school board for the first time. He has been involved with CFBISD for many years and now has decided it is time to step up his involvement with the district.
“Running for the school board has always been in the back in my mind when I was a coach, teacher and administrator,” said Mathews. “I have served this district for 40 years now and I would like to give back to the district that has been so good to me.”
David Lloyd Kirby, another Place 6 candidate, has been involved in many Carrollton activities and has now decided to run for the school board.
“I have been a coach and mentor for 20-plus years,” said Kirby. “I have four boys who have been through the school system, and I think I can help make a difference on the board.”
The fourth and final candidate running for Place 6 is Sedric Flood. Flood filed for election just before the deadline on Monday and could not be reached for comment.
The final seat available is Place 7. The position is being sought after by two candidates, the first being Mike Sheaffer.
“I am looking forward to serving the students teachers administrations and voters within the CFBISD.” Sheaffer said.
The other candidate running for Place 7 is current place-holder Nancy Watten. Watten, who has been a schoolteacher for 32 years, would like to continue to be on the board to see issues through that she has already been involved in.
“I would like to continue to work on the issues I have already been a part of, and I will not make a promise I can’t keep,” said Watten. “I do not have a personal agenda. I have worked hard for three years and I have kept my focus for three years. I would like to continue to do this job.”
Election day for the school board is May 8.
