Get warm, snuggle up with a book from the Little Elm Public Library
By Tina Hager
How cold was it? It was so cold that my car doors froze shut and I had to crawl in through the passenger side to get to the drivers side. (Keep in mind I drive a Camaro and I’m not a small person). It was so cold that our apartment complex’s pool froze over. (I’ve lived in a lot of apartments in Texas and have never seen this before). But no matter how cold it got, I still appreciated the fact that it could have been a lot worse. Normally the cold weather, snow, and ice, does not hit Texas until the latter part of January to mid February. Since we have gotten hit a few times during the last couple of months, does that mean that we’re going to have a couple more episodes before the end of February or are we done? Inquiring minds want to know, what is your prediction?
Speaking of predictions, how are your New Year’s resolutions going? I’ve already fallen behind a few days on my daily ones so I had to do a quick catch-up. This could be viewed two ways. Either it’s a sign that I will not be able to keep up with my dailies all year or I’m committed enough that I am willing to make the effort to play catch-up when I fall behind. I will go with the positive view for now.
If one of your resolutions was to make more time to read, the easiest and cheapest way to start is to have a library card and use it. There are 17 public libraries that serve Denton County and fourteen of them do not charge for a library card. Little Elm Library has a bookmark with the libraries' names and phone numbers so make sure to pick one up the next time you are in.
If one of your resolutions was to learn something new, some programs that may be of interest include making snow globes out of soda/water bottles (1/14/10 at 4:15 p.m.); chess club (1/14/10 at 5:30 p.m.); Magic the Gathering role playing card game (every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m.); Adult Basic Literacy classes (we are signing up adults who would like to learn how to read and volunteers who would like to help teach); knitting club (1/16/10 at 1 p.m.); and Writers group (third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.) to name a few. The library will be closed January 18 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Jill O’Connell with O’Connell law firm will be presenting a free family law seminar on January 23 at 10 a.m. Please call the library at 214-975-0430 to register for this informative seminar. Make sure to visit the Business and Craft fair going on at 11 a.m. that same day. Don’t forget there is still time to sign up for the famous Friends of the Library annual Trivia contest! Visit their website at http://www.littleelmfol.org/ and sign a team up today.
Need information, call the library at 214-975-0430; email library@littleelm.org; or visit the library web page at www.littleelm.org/library. While at the library web page, click on Get Connected and sign up for the weekly library newsletter. Visit the library again and again in two thousand ten.
