DO YOU HAVE A DYNAMIC MARRIAGE?
High Pointe Church of Christ is offering eight weeks of Dynamic Marriage classes. The class is for those who are married and for couples who are getting married.
Preview meetings will be held on Sunday, at 9 a.m., in the church's west gym, and at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel room.

TO FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GAMES?
Did you know that you can take the shuttle to a high school football game?
Well, you can.
McKinney Support Services is running shuttles for all home varsity football games this season.
Durham Transportation will provide three (3) shuttle buses from each of the campuses involved in a game at Ron Poe Stadium.
The shuttles will run every fifteen (15) minutes starting at 5 p.m.. for cross-town games and 5:15 p.m. for all other home games. They will run for one (1) hour after the game ends.
The pick-up and drop-off locations are the following:

KIDS NIGHT OUT

MPAC: Dan Evans
Millions of TV viewers followed Dan Evans' journey to lose 136 pounds on "The Biggest Loser," and now the reality show contestant is wowing country music fans with his chart topping CD debut, "Goin' All Out." NEW OFFICES FOR CHAMBER
The McKinney Chamber of Commerce is moving its offices at 1650 West Virginia Street to the Summit Park Building at 2150 South Central Expressway. The move is scheduled to take place Oct. 1.

The McKinney Kiwanis Club will begin its 60th year in McKinney the first of October with a new slate of officers and board members.

PUBLIC HEARING
The McKinney Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will hold a public input meeting on the design of a Master Plan for Finch Park.
The public input meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the Finch Park West Pavilion located at 301 W. Standifer Street.
NO DRINKING AND DRIVING
For the next several weeks, police officers will focus on keeping drunk drivers off the streets.
"Drunk driving is one of our biggest safety threats. Thanks to this grant from TxDOT, we can send out additional patrol officers to specifically target drivers who demonstrate behaviors consistent with drinking and driving during a busy holiday weekend. Extra measures like this can save lives," said McKinney Police Department Assistant Chief Rex Redden. "McKinney is one of the safest cities in the country, and we are urging residents to keep it that way by never drinking and driving."
MPD and local law enforcement agencies are making an extra effort to spot and stop drunk drivers. Year after year, Texas is among the states with the highest incidents of drunk driving in the nation according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). McKinney police officers urge anyone attending a social event with alcohol over the Labor Day holiday to designate a sober driver, call someone to pick you up if you have been drinking, or just stay where you are.

The McKinney Public Library Book Club will meet at noon Wednesday, Sept. 2 to discuss The Judgment of Paris: The Revolutionary Decade that Gave the World Impressionism, by Ross King.

BATTLE FOR MYERS LANDING
On Nov. 7-8 the Myers Park and Event Center will go back in time to the tumultuous period of the Civil War.
The North Texas History Center, in partnership with the Collin County Commissioners Court, Collin County Historical Commission, and Myers Park and Event Center will sponsor one of North Texas’ largest living history events.
The two day event will portray North Texas circa 1860-1865 by bringing together hundreds of living history re-enactors. These fine and talented people will present aspects of life in the 1860s by depicting: Life on the Home Front, Battles, Life in Camp, and much more.
The re-enactment will include cannons, cavalry and infantry, authentic period military camps, period and current day vendors, concerts by a Confederate brass band, and much more, all up close and personal on 165 acres of rolling land and trees in McKinney, Texas!

After School Dance/Drama Class. Minshew Elementary would like to begin an after school group for students interested in drama or dance. They are seeking a volunteer with dance or drama experience to teach a small group of motivated students.

RAILFEST
The Texas State Railroad is holding its 1st Annual RailFest on Saturday, Sept. 5th and a special RailFest train excursion on Sunday, Sept. 6th out of the Palestine Depot.
RailFest is a festival event with activities for the entire family to enjoy from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Activities include a thirty minute train ride (11:30 a.m., 2:15 p.m. and 4 p.m.), Euro-bungee, motor car rides, live steamers, retail & food vendors, bounce houses, petting zoo, miniature train ride, shop tour, T&P Steam Engine 201 & 610 on display, live musical entertainment, Palestine Chamber of Commerce “Beer Garden” (3-6 p.m.), meet Miss Texas 2009 and more! Live musical entertainment includes Whiskey Myers (5 p.m.), The Papers (3 p.m.), and Lauren Alexander (12:15 p.m.).
The festival will begin with a ceremony with local politicians including Senator Nichols and VIPs for a dedication of the newly restored Steam Engine 300. Local Fireman and Peace Officers will also be honored during the event and fire engines from Palestine, Rusk, and Maydelle will be on display.
On Sunday, there will be a special RailFest Steam Engine excursion with Engine 300 from the Palestine Depot to the Maydelle Turntable from 9 to 11:45 a.m.. BBQ lunch and live musical entertainment (included in ticket price) from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m..

SAMARITAN INN GALA
Mark Oct. 17 as the date for the annual awards gala to benefit the Samaritan Inn, Collin County’s homeless shelter.
Wal-Mart will assume the role of title sponsor according to Brent Allen, McKinney ‘green’ store manager who also serves as vice-president of programs on the Samaritan Inn board of directors.
Capital One and Mustang Technologies will also be major event Humanitarian-level sponsors.
For the second year, Miss Ebby Halliday, chairman of Ebby Halliday Realtors, will be honorary event chairperson, while Sarah Lake will serve as Gala Chairwoman, also for the second consecutive year.
The evening’s entertainment will be provided by the Maylee Thomas Band while master of ceremonies will be Steve Stoler, longtime and well-known Collin County news reporter for WFAA-TV, Channel 8, in Dallas.
A special fund-raiser will offer one lucky person the opportunity to win their choice of a new Mazda Miata, new four-door Jeep Wrangler or a Chevy Silverado Extended Cab pickup, provided by El Dorado Motors of McKinney; or the option of accepting $25,000 in cash.
Those who purchase five tickets will have an extra ticket added for free. There will be 1,000 tickets sold.
The winner will be announced during the awards ceremony and need not be present to win.

The event, which will honor special award recipients and volunteers during the Inn’s 25th anniversary, is set for the Embassy Suites ballroom in Frisco.

11 a.m. Tuesdays: Story time at Stonebriar Centre
The big kids are back in school, so mark your calendar and gather up all the little ones and head to Story Time at Pottery Barn Kids at Stonebriar Centre every Tuesday in September. The free sessions usually begin around 11:00 a.m., but interested parents or caregivers are asked to call 972.731.8912 to confirm the time.
Children will receive an official Book Club Card at their first Story Time, and the Card is stamped for each attendance. When the Card has five stamps, Pottery Barn Kids will issue the cardholder a $10 coupon that can be used in the store.
Pottery Barn Kids is located on the upper level near the main entrance. Story Time is free and reservations are not necessary.

PUBLIC HEARING
The McKinney Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will hold a public input meeting on the design of a Master Plan for Finch Park.
The public input meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the Finch Park West Pavilion located at 301 W. Standifer Street.
NO DRINKING AND DRIVING
For the next several weeks, police officers will focus on keeping drunk drivers off the streets.
"Drunk driving is one of our biggest safety threats. Thanks to this grant from TxDOT, we can send out additional patrol officers to specifically target drivers who demonstrate behaviors consistent with drinking and driving during a busy holiday weekend. Extra measures like this can save lives," said McKinney Police Department Assistant Chief Rex Redden. "McKinney is one of the safest cities in the country, and we are urging residents to keep it that way by never drinking and driving."
MPD and local law enforcement agencies are making an extra effort to spot and stop drunk drivers. Year after year, Texas is among the states with the highest incidents of drunk driving in the nation according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). McKinney police officers urge anyone attending a social event with alcohol over the Labor Day holiday to designate a sober driver, call someone to pick you up if you have been drinking, or just stay where you are.

BATTLE FOR MYERS LANDING
On Nov. 7-8 the Myers Park and Event Center will go back in time to the tumultuous period of the Civil War.
The North Texas History Center, in partnership with the Collin County Commissioners Court, Collin County Historical Commission, and Myers Park and Event Center will sponsor one of North Texas’ largest living history events.
The two day event will portray North Texas circa 1860-1865 by bringing together hundreds of living history re-enactors. These fine and talented people will present aspects of life in the 1860s by depicting: Life on the Home Front, Battles, Life in Camp, and much more.
The re-enactment will include cannons, cavalry and infantry, authentic period military camps, period and current day vendors, concerts by a Confederate brass band, and much more, all up close and personal on 165 acres of rolling land and trees in McKinney, Texas!

After School Dance/Drama Class. Minshew Elementary would like to begin an after school group for students interested in drama or dance. They are seeking a volunteer with dance or drama experience to teach a small group of motivated students.

RAILFEST
The Texas State Railroad is holding its 1st Annual RailFest on Saturday, Sept. 5th and a special RailFest train excursion on Sunday, Sept. 6th out of the Palestine Depot.
RailFest is a festival event with activities for the entire family to enjoy from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Activities include a thirty minute train ride (11:30 a.m., 2:15 p.m. and 4 p.m.), Euro-bungee, motor car rides, live steamers, retail & food vendors, bounce houses, petting zoo, miniature train ride, shop tour, T&P Steam Engine 201 & 610 on display, live musical entertainment, Palestine Chamber of Commerce “Beer Garden” (3-6 p.m.), meet Miss Texas 2009 and more! Live musical entertainment includes Whiskey Myers (5 p.m.), The Papers (3 p.m.), and Lauren Alexander (12:15 p.m.).
The festival will begin with a ceremony with local politicians including Senator Nichols and VIPs for a dedication of the newly restored Steam Engine 300. Local Fireman and Peace Officers will also be honored during the event and fire engines from Palestine, Rusk, and Maydelle will be on display.
On Sunday, there will be a special RailFest Steam Engine excursion with Engine 300 from the Palestine Depot to the Maydelle Turntable from 9 to 11:45 a.m.. BBQ lunch and live musical entertainment (included in ticket price) from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m..

SAMARITAN INN GALA
Mark Oct. 17 as the date for the annual awards gala to benefit the Samaritan Inn, Collin County’s homeless shelter.
Wal-Mart will assume the role of title sponsor according to Brent Allen, McKinney ‘green’ store manager who also serves as vice-president of programs on the Samaritan Inn board of directors.
Capital One and Mustang Technologies will also be major event Humanitarian-level sponsors.
For the second year, Miss Ebby Halliday, chairman of Ebby Halliday Realtors, will be honorary event chairperson, while Sarah Lake will serve as Gala Chairwoman, also for the second consecutive year.
The evening’s entertainment will be provided by the Maylee Thomas Band while master of ceremonies will be Steve Stoler, longtime and well-known Collin County news reporter for WFAA-TV, Channel 8, in Dallas.
A special fund-raiser will offer one lucky person the opportunity to win their choice of a new Mazda Miata, new four-door Jeep Wrangler or a Chevy Silverado Extended Cab pickup, provided by El Dorado Motors of McKinney; or the option of accepting $25,000 in cash.
Those who purchase five tickets will have an extra ticket added for free. There will be 1,000 tickets sold.
The winner will be announced during the awards ceremony and need not be present to win.
An impressive lineup of live auction items was announced, including:
* Chef Richard Chamberlain, of Chamberlain’s Chop House, to make dinner at his home for eight guests;
* lunch for eight with Ebby Halliday at Neiman Marcus;
* a personal party performance by LIVE BAND, a popular Metroplex band of Dallas attorneys and physicians

The event, which will honor special award recipients and volunteers during the Inn’s 25th anniversary, is set for the Embassy Suites ballroom in Frisco.

STORY TIME
11 a.m. Tuesdays: Story time at Stonebriar Centre
The big kids are back in school, so mark your calendar and gather up all the little ones and head to Story Time at Pottery Barn Kids at Stonebriar Centre every Tuesday in September. The free sessions usually begin around 11:00 a.m., but interested parents or caregivers are asked to call 972.731.8912 to confirm the time.
Children will receive an official Book Club Card at their first Story Time, and the Card is stamped for each attendance. When the Card has five stamps, Pottery Barn Kids will issue the cardholder a $10 coupon that can be used in the store.
Pottery Barn Kids is located on the upper level near the main entrance. Story Time is free and reservations are not necessary.
