Rowlett: Police investigate death of man at lake as child tries to save him
By Ann Marie Shambaugh, Staff Writer
Dallas police are investigating the death of a Rowlett man whose 6-year-old son attempted to pull him out of Lake Ray Hubbard on Monday.
Police on a routine patrol discovered the boy trying to drag 37-year-old Gedion Theodros out of the lake near the boat ramp in Robertson Park around 8:45 p.m. They performed CPR until Rowlett Fire Rescue arrived on the scene.
“Our units took over the care of the patient and did advanced life support and transported him to Presbyterian Hospital in Rockwall,” RFR Assistant Chief Don Poovey said.
Officials said Theodros and his son were alone at the lake, and no witnesses observed how the man fell into the water.
“They were on an outing according to the son, just hanging out at the lake,” Dallas Police Department Senior Corporal Kevin Janse said. “We don’t know if he was intoxicated.”
Poovey said Theodros and his son were not boating, and that the victim’s car was parked near the boat ramp. He also said it was a tough case for the department to handle.
“As the paramedics were working on the dad, the little boy said, ‘When is my daddy going to wake up?’”
The incident is still under investigation.
