Highland Village Festival draws crowd of 10,000
BY DAN EAKIN, Staff Writer
The city of Highland Village’s annual Red, White & Blue Festival is rapidly becoming one of the biggest events in the area.
A crowd of about 10,000 people gathered in Copperas Branch Park on the west side of Interstate 35E Saturday night to hear Micky and the Motorcars and Kevin Fowler. The evening concluded with a fireworks extravaganza.
“The festival was wonderful, the best yet,” said Laurie Mullens, Highland Village spokesperson. “We estimate about 10,000 people attended. Each year the event grows and we get better with experience.”
She concluded, “We would like to provide this event for our residents again next year. We will be looking at it as we plan our 2009-2010 budget.”
The event actually began early Saturday, with a 1k/5k run, sponsored by the Marcus High School Cross Country and Track teams, at 8 a.m. at Unity Park. Also, a fish fry and an Arbor Day Proclamation were among the activities Saturday morning at Unity Park.
