SAT Training Coming to Little Elm High School
Little Elm High School is partnering with Test Prep Seminars to sponsor a PSAT/SAT test preparation workshop to better prepare local students for college entrance exams. The high school is also helping lower the cost of the workshop to $25. The five-hour seminar will be held during the school day on, Sept. 24, at Little Elm High School Auditorium from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We want our students to have every opportunity to attain high scores, not only on their college entrance exams, but high school courses as well,” said Principal Gerry Talley, who selected Test Prep Seminars to bring their expertise on all levels to the students. “We want to bring every advantage to our students as we are actively moving LEHS to be one of the premier high schools in the state.”
Preparation seminars improve test scores. In an effort to create and maintain a college prep culture, a qualifying score on an admission test is an important first step. It is also an important first step in the college recruitment process for prospective student athletes and colleges will not recruit a student athlete without a qualifying score.
“Traditionally, the SAT and PSAT preparatory classes have been extremely expensive, which limits the participation of many students. Our school is making a commitment to provide prep classes to our students at a minimal cost,” said Talley.
“I encourage all sophomores, juniors and seniors to attend. Each parent pays only $25 and the school pays the balance of the $85 cost.”
“It only takes a few points on the test to make the difference as to whether a student is admitted to the college of their choice; and a few additional points can mean a scholarship,” said Chuck Murphy, President of Test Prep Seminars.
The seminar focuses on:
* Helping students reduce test-taking anxiety
* Improving time-management skills on test-taking
* Strategies to approach each section of the test
* Identifying weak areas and strengthening them
* Providing real-time test experiences
The course includes the SAT critical reading, writing, mathematics and essay sections, and prepares sophomores and juniors for the PSAT/NMSQT® and juniors and seniors for the SAT. Test Prep Seminars offers strategies and techniques to build confidence and improve test scores through on-site high school workshops. " Obviously not all present day High School students fall into this category, but from what I have observed, it would take more than a little tutoring to make a difference in most of their SAT scores. Most cannot spell SAT, let alone do well on the exam. Until we rid the classrooms of habitual trouble makers, non english speaking students and an enviroment where kids are taught simply to pass a test and not real knowledge, we will continue to supply the nation with McDonalds employees.
