Pet Maggie the Dog, play chess, read at the Little Elm Public Library

By Tina Hager

Have you ever had the feeling that you have forgotten something…phone, keys, wallet, child? For those of you who have children or are caring for children, please take an extra few moments to make sure that they are where they should be. If you take children with you in the car, please make sure to double check the vehicle before you go inside.

Speaking of taking children places, why not bring them to the library for some fun activities to stay out of the heat. At the Little Elm Library on, August 9, Maggie the Dog will be visiting the 10:30 a.m. family story time. You can listen to stories while petting Maggie. On, August 11, at 11 a.m. participate in the arts/crafts project on camouflage and talk about animals that use camouflage. On August 14 at 4 p.m. play Pictionary, then at 5:30 p.m stick around to play chess. If you don’t know how, no problem because our volunteer chess club coordinator Curt will teach you. (Many thanks to the Friends of the library for providing the awesome chess mat sets and timers).

We also have adult programs available. On August 14 at 7 p.m. the Little Elm Seizure Support group will be having Dr. Brandon Wilson, of North Texas Spinal Health to speak about chiropractic care as it relates to the nervous system. The presentation will take place at Little Elm Town Hall in the Council Chambers. On August 19 Dr. Wilson will be giving a presentation on migraine headaches at 8:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers. Registration is required for both these programs.

School is almost back in session and soon children will be carrying backpacks full of books and other items. Come to the library on, August 16 at 10:30 a.m. and hear Dr. Brandon Wilson present “Backpack safety: the proper way to wear a backpack.” A free school supply gift will be given to each attendee but registration is required.

Kids are not the only ones who carry books around. New bestseller adult titles added this week include “Tribute” by Nora Roberts; “Just Too Good To Be True” by E. Lynn Harris; “The Last Oracle” by James Rollins; “Rules of Deception” by Christopher Reich; “The Beach House” by Jane Green; “Life With My Sister Madonna” by Christopher Ciccone; and “The Dark Side: the Inside Story of How the War on Terror Turned Into a War on American Ideals” by Jane Mayer.

For more information about anything or to register for any of these programs, call the library at 214-975-0430; email library@littleelm.org or visit the library website at http://ci.little-elm.tx.us/library. While there, click on Get Connected add your email address and make sure to check the box to receive the page by page library newsletter.
