Stay cool at the library with new DVDs and artwork

By Tina Hager

Are you hot? Looking for things to do to stay out of the heat? Checking out movies from the library is an inexpensive way to stay cool, (just coming into the library is an inexpensive way to stay cool). Some oldies but goodies that have been added to the library collection include DVDs “Will& Grace” series finale and “The Punisher.” Videos added include “The Substitute”; “Lethal Weapon 4”; “Deep Blue Sea”; and “Final Destination.”

Upcoming programs of interest include Toastmasters which meet on July 24th at 7 p.m. On July 26th, literary character Geronimo Stilton will be visiting the 10:30 family story time to help end the Scholastic Book Fair fundraiser that ends at 2 p.m. that day. Also on Saturday, the monthly business fair runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and visiting businesses include Rachel Foster Pictures; American International Realty, MTZ Auto Repair; Rainey Brown Home Interiors and Gifts; and GWW Credit Service.

On July 28th, Dr. Brandon Wilson, chiropractor with North Texas Spine Health and Wellness will be speaking to the Diabetes support group on Staying Healthy and Well with Diabetes at 10:30 a.m.

On Twofer Tuesday, July 29th, we have guest speaker Chiropractor Dr. Brandon Wilson speaking on carpel tunnel at noon and at 7 p.m. Also that same day we have Dyral McGriff of GWW Credit Services giving a free credit seminar.

For those of you who have signed up for Summer Reading Club 2008, all forms need to be turned in by July 31st. Many thanks to our 2008 sponsors Texas State Library; Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus; The Wiggly Play Center in Frisco; Choo Choo Station Entertainment Center in Grapevine; Joe’s Crab Shack; Whataburger; and Golden Corral.

A new artist has work on display and for sale at the library. Local artist Linda Scott has a commercial art background. Trained as a fashion illustrator, her career spanned illustration in Linda’s early years, through photo retouching and graphic design to retail fashion art directing the last decade or so of her commercial life. Now retired because of Parkinson’s disease, she is exploring drawing and painting for fun. Drop by the library to experience Linda’s art through greeting cards, prints, coffee mugs, and pictures. Pali Kaur is also a local artist, who has art at the library and who draws and paints in a wide variety of mediums, including colored pencils, inks, acrylics, oils, and watercolors. She is also an accomplished henna artist.  Her initial endeavors in art started with embroidery work as well as painting on fabric and glass.  Pali’s artwork is inspired by both western and eastern traditions.     palk2@yahoo.com
